On June 26, 2026, at the Vidas Athletic Complex at Drexel University, two amateur teams will compete in the first-ever Trans-Atlantic Cup.
Representing the United States is West Chester United, the 2025 USASA National Amateur Cup champions. From England comes the Arthurian League, crowned champions of the 2024 FA Inter-League Cup.
While international matchups are common at the professional level, this one stands out because of who is playing. Both teams are made up of amateur athletes. These are players who balance training and competition with jobs, school, and social lives.
For West Chester United, the match is a chance to test themselves against strong competition and represent the region on a larger scale. They have built a reputation as one of the top amateur teams in Pennsylvania, with a roster that includes players from local colleges and communities.
The Arthurian League team brings a different kind of background. The league is tied to some of England’s oldest schools, including Chigwell School, which has a historical connection to Philadelphia’s famous William Penn. This adds an interesting historical undertone to a match being played in the Philadelphia area.
It is a significant year for soccer in Philadelphia as a whole. In 2026, Philadelphia will play a major role in hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026, bringing global attention to the region. The Trans-Atlantic Cup offers a smaller, community-focused event that reflects the same international spirit.
Organizers are also inviting local support, including game-day sponsors and a post-match reception, to help make the event accessible and memorable for players and fans alike.
At its core, the match is about giving amateur players a rare opportunity, to compete internationally, connect with peers from another country, and be part of something different than the usual season schedule.
For spectators, it’s a chance to see high-level amateur soccer while supporting a local team and welcoming visitors from abroad for a one-night event that blends sport, community, and a bit of shared history.
There are many opportunities for involvement at many different levels, whether it be donation, hosting or sponsorship. Please reach out to Chris Branscome at cbranscome@epysa.org for more information.
