On January 23, 2025, the BABCPHL partnered with Club Level member Faegre Drinker to host a timely, engaging and highly informative webinar about global mobility and immigration. BABCPHL Executive Committee Member, Remy Nshimiyimana a Partner at Faegre Drinker, welcomed 50 guests from British American Business Council’s located across the US and the UK, and introduced speaker Sari Long and Claire Nilson.
Sari kicked off the session with an energetic overview of the US visa process, sharing practical strategies for both professionals and employers. She also provided timely insights into potential shifts in immigration policy under the new US administration, inaugurated just three days ago. Following this, Claire took the floor to discuss UK immigration, contrasting key aspects of the US visa process and offering valuable information on UK pathways for High Potential Individuals and Skilled Workers.
In the segment on US Immigration Hot Topics, the speakers addressed the impact the Trump administration will have on the workplace, including increased worksite enforcement, threats to Temporary Protected Status (TPS), Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and potential travel bans. They also discussed the rollback of Biden-era policies and how these changes will affect employers and employees alike.
Specific to BABCPHL members and their international workforce concerns, Sari highlighted the significant increase in vetting processes for work visas at international embassies. Claire added insights into the UK’s new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), implemented on January 8, 2025. This digital travel permission applies to travelers of all ages from visa-exempt countries visiting the UK for tourism, business, short-term study (less than six months), or transit. Additionally, UK visa holders can expect the government to continue digitalizing its immigration system as it transitions to the UKVI eVisa.
