Member Spotlight: Judy Boreham

For Judy Boreham, joining the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia (BABCPHL) was more than a professional decision. Boreham explained she was initially drawn to the BABCPHL because of its connection to the British community and its role as a local business network. “The organization provides an excellent opportunity to connect with professionals who are interested in fostering business relationships. It’s a great way to strengthen existing connections and build new ones with like-minded individuals.”

The Death of LIBOR Not SOFR Away… Are You Ready? Secured Overnight Financing Rate: The New Benchmark – Expectations & Implications

On Thursday, May 16, 2019, the BABCPHL hosted a finance seminar about The Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) at the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. In 2021, the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR), the world’s most important financial rate, will go away, but it is unclear what will replace the index used in virtually every significant credit arrangement, bond, swap and financial instrument. The volume of financial contracts based on LIBOR is estimated at $200 trillion. The change will affect every company and financial institution. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has proposed that SOFR become the new lending resource rate. It is the rate banks will pay on the repurchase agreement market for borrowing overnight. US regulators anticipate SOFR will be widely adopted to back the derivatives and loans market, and to be the universally accepted replacement for the outgoing LIBOR.

2016 President’s Letter

On Sunday, January 17 and Monday, January 18, 2016, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia Young Professionals Group hosted four service projects – a guest chef dinner, an evening art activity, breakfast buddies, and an attic clean-up – to benefit the Front & Erie and the Chestnut Street Philadelphia Ronald McDonald Houses (PRMH). The original Ronald McDonald house was co-founded by Dr. Audrey Evans and the Philadelphia Eagles. Dr. Evans was working as a pediatric oncologist at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and she saw the need for families to have a supportive place to stay while their children were in treatment. Dr. Evans had a vision for a home away from home, similar to a YMCA. At the same time, the Philadelphia Eagles were fundraising in support of player Fred Hill and his wife Fran’s daughter, Kim, who was battling childhood leukemia. Co-Founder and then General Manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jimmy Murray, approached Dr. Lawrence Naiman at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children with proceeds raised by the Eagles.
