For organizations like the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, the most meaningful business relationships are often built on connections that span both sides of the Atlantic. My own career has been shaped by those connections, particularly through my experience working in London and advising both institutional and private wealth clients in the United Kingdom.
Today, as Chief Investment Officer of Wescott Financial Advisory Group, I continue to draw upon those experiences when helping clients navigate an increasingly interconnected global economy.
Founded in Philadelphia in 1987, Wescott’s beginnings took root when Grant Rawdin, Founder & CEO, was serving as a tax and business attorney with Duane Morris LLP, an international law firm with offices that include Philadelphia and the United Kingdom. He discovered that his clients were also in need of expert wealth advisory support to help reach their goals. From this discovery, Wescott has since grown into one of the region’s leading multifaceted, independent registered advisory firms (www.wescott.com). It provides holistic wealth management solutions for individuals and families, while also advising retirement plans, foundations, endowments, and other institutional investors.
One of the aspects of Wescott I value most is the breadth of our work. On the private wealth side, we help individuals and families make thoughtful, holistic decisions around financial planning, tax strategy, investment management, estate planning, philanthropy, and multigenerational wealth transfer. Our approach recognizes that financial decisions cannot be separated from the personal values and life goals they are intended to support. Our trademarked “Life-Minded Wealth®” philosophy remains central to how we guide clients’ wealth journeys.
At the same time, our institutional consulting practice works with retirement plans and fiduciaries to help design investment programs that support the long-term financial wellbeing of employees and retirees. As organizations continue to navigate increasingly complex financial markets, fiduciary responsibilities, and retirement challenges, thoughtful governance and investment oversight have become more important than ever.
My experience working in London reinforced an important lesson: whether advising a pension fund in the United Kingdom, a retirement plan in the United States, or a private family navigating multigenerational wealth decisions, successful investing requires both technical expertise and an appreciation for broader economic forces shaping the global landscape.
That perspective remains particularly important today. While market headlines frequently focus on short-term volatility, our investment team continues to emphasize the evidence-based philosophy that has proven to be durable over full market cycles. Economic growth remains uneven but resilient across major developed economies. Inflation appears considerably more contained than it was several years ago, although policymakers remain attentive to growing pressures. Investors continue to face a world characterized by geopolitical uncertainty, elevated government debt levels, technological disruption, and evolving trade relationships. Yet history reminds us that long-term investors are often rewarded for maintaining discipline rather than reacting to every headline.
From our perspective, diversification remains one of the most effective tools available to investors. We continue to believe globally diversified portfolios, thoughtful risk management, and a focus on long-term objectives provide the most reliable path through uncertain environments. These principles guide the advice we provide to both families and institutional clients.
Although much of our work involves global markets, our commitment to Philadelphia remains fundamental to who we are as a firm. Wescott is proud to be headquartered in Center City and has long supported many civic, educational, and charitable organizations throughout the region. Our team actively contributes time, leadership, and resources to organizations focused on education, economic opportunity, community development, and social impact. The firm’s longstanding charitable initiatives and community partnerships reflect a belief that successful businesses should contribute to the communities where they live and work. It is one of the foundational reasons why Wescott was named a Certified B Corp in 2020 and recertified in 2023.
For me personally, the connection between Philadelphia and London remains especially meaningful. Both cities are global centers of commerce, finance, law, education, and innovation. Organizations such as the British American Business Council help strengthen those connections by bringing together professionals and businesses that share common interests and opportunities.
At Wescott, we are fortunate to serve clients whose lives, businesses, interests, and investments often extend beyond national borders. While markets and economies will continue to evolve, our mission remains consistent: helping clients make confident financial decisions that support their goals, values, and long-term success, whether those goals are rooted locally, nationally, or internationally.
