For Judy Boreham, joining the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia (BABCPHL) was more than a professional decision. Boreham explained she was initially drawn to the BABCPHL because of its connection to the British community and its role as a local business network. "The organization provides an excellent opportunity to connect with professionals who are interested in fostering business relationships. It's a great way to strengthen existing connections and build new ones with like-minded individuals."
Since becoming a member, Boreham has embraced the BABCPHL mission of fostering transatlantic relationships and creating meaningful connections among its membership base. She particularly values the community's range of diverse backgrounds and the vibrant conversations she has had with members.
"The events attract a wide range of individuals, from professionals connected to organizations like the Philadelphia Union to representatives of major corporations and engaged business leaders," Boreham explained. "There's always someone new to meet and connect with, and it's inspiring to engage with people who share an understanding of the unique relationship between the UK and the Philadelphia business community."
Among her many experiences with the BABCPHL, one stands out as particularly memorable. About 5 years ago, at The Signature Annual Holiday Lunch, Judy recalls "the excitement surrounding a raffle prize: two business-class plane tickets to the UK with a three- to four-night hotel stay." She continues, "I bought a few raffle tickets, and, to our surprise, I won! It was perfect timing, as my husband and I used the trip to attend our godson's wedding in the UK. It was a truly unforgettable experience."
Her advice to those considering getting involved with the organization is simple yet impactful: "If you're unsure whether the organization is a fit for you, I recommend attending an event as a non-member," Boreham suggests. "You'll quickly see how warm and welcoming the group is, and you'll have the chance to meet individuals who are genuinely interested in sharing their stories and experiences. It's an inviting community that fosters meaningful connections."
Boreham's BABCPHL story highlights how far you can go by getting out of your comfort zone and attending an event. Perhaps you will even find yourself on a free flight to the UK, too!
