Member Spotlight: Jonathan Grode

This week, we are turning a spotlight onto Jonathan Grode, esq.

Jonathan Grode is a corporate immigration attorney at Green & Spiegel in Philadelphia and has a long-standing connection to Britain. After studying abroad in England for a year in college, Grode shares, "I have always had a soft spot for the UK". He recalls that, "for a time, I considered living there permanently as a proper American expat". However, the pursuit of a legal career led him back to Philadelphia, where he now specializes in providing corporate immigration legal services. Joining the British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia (BABCPHL) allowed him to connect his personal history with his professional aspirations. 

For Grode, membership in BABCPHL is about more than networking; it solidifies his connection to the UK. "In some ways it feels like I never left," he explains. "Being a member really cements my connection to the UK and also facilitates opportunities for my firm." This sense of belonging enriches his practice and helps him serve clients with a nuanced understanding of cultural differences. His involvement with BABCPHL has been instrumental in supporting both his professional growth and his firm's success.

"As a firm that specializes in helping businesses expand from overseas to the US, the BABC allows access to both new and growing UK companies," he notes. He appreciates the organization's focus on current issues, stating, "The programming is excellent and allows me to stay engaged with the latest trends and opportunities." 

Among the events he has attended, Grode cites the series surrounding Brexit as particularly significant. "From a practical perspective, the entire series of events surrounding Brexit were fundamental in my understanding of a massive shift in the European political landscape," he recalls. However, a 2023 event at Freemans Auction House stands out as a favorite. "It was an insider glimpse into a fascinating industry and an opportunity to explore art on a very intimate level," he shares. Being part of BABCPHL allows Grode to reconnect with his UK roots while living in Philadelphia. "Going back to my UK adventure when I was younger, the BABCPHL allows me to sort of travel back to the UK, albeit from the lens of a corporate immigration attorney," he explains. This community provides not only a professional network but also a personal connection to a place that holds a lot of significance in his life journey. 

For those considering joining BABCPHL, Grode offers straightforward advice: "It is great, but it takes effort – you have to go to the events and engage if you want to get the most value from the association." He emphasizes the importance of building relationships, stating, "Once people get to know you and your business, the opportunities flow regularly."
