Member Feature – Virgin Atlantic Airways

Founded in 1984, Virgin Atlantic Airways has become one of the world’s leading airlines serving major cities throughout the globe. Virgin Atlantic was developed as an offshoot of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, which was better known at the time in the world of pop and rock music. Recognizing that, like the music business, aviation was a consumer led industry, and Branson decided to diversify. On June 22, 1984, Virgin’s inaugural flight to Newark took place. The Airline’s mission was to provide “the highest quality innovative service at excellent value for money for all classes of air travelers.” Tremendously popular, Virgin Atlantic has won top business, consumer and trade awards from around the world. The Airline is customer driven with an emphasis on cost value, quality, fun and innovation. Since its inception, Virgin Atlantic has been deeply committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Airline proudly advocates for the LGBTQ+ community. This year, Virgin Atlantic’s Pride celebrations looked a little different than planned. 2020 was to be the first of a three-year headline sponsorship of Manchester Pride. The Company was looking forward to flying the flag at home in the North. Ruben Galas, a Consultant with Virgin Atlantic Airways said, “Until things get back to normal – whatever normal looks like – our Pride flag is a timely reminder that the road to lasting change is a long one. We must continue to strive together to be an inclusive, respectful workplace where everyone is free to be themselves and has equal opportunity for career progression.” The BABCPHL is proud to recognize Virgin Atlantic Airways, a Club Level member for more than decade, for their commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.
