June 14th marks US Flag Day as well as the birthday of the US Army. On this special day in 2022, Her Majesty’s Deputy Consul General to New York, Hannah Young, officiated a tree planting ceremony in celebration of The Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The rain and clouds gave way to a lovely afternoon bathed in sunshine at Independence National Historic Park, Washington Square in Philadelphia.
This special ceremony was part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, inviting people to “plant a tree for the Jubilee.” The Crown and all facets of British life are deeply committed to protecting our climate and sustainability. Planting a tree is a symbolic act of goodness that will ensure a brighter and greener future for all.
Cindy MacLeod, Superintendent, Independence National Historical Park welcomed keynote speakers and special guests for this momentous occasion. Following remarks, speakers took their turns at planting the beautiful oak tree before moving across the Square to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where a wreath was laid.
