You are cordially invited to an exclusive fireside chat about the groundbreaking work taking place in Greater Philadelphia that is shaping the future of healthcare. Hear from Dr. Jonathan Epstein, Chief Scientific Officer at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania about why our city is becoming known as “Cellicon Valley” with the dawn of the world’s first gene therapies through technology developed at Penn Medicine that is spawning an industry and advancing new cures. Our region has also had a major impact on the pandemic with the discovery of the mRNA technology that enabled the most effective vaccines. Dr. Epstein and Valarie Higgins, Managing Director & President of Almac Clinical Technologies at Almac Group will engage in a dynamic dialogue about how this technology is currently being developed for other treatments and diseases – we are at the start of an immune system revolution!

Learn how Penn Medicine and Almac Group were instrumental in the development and distribution of the Covid-19 vaccines that have allowed us to overcome the devastating effects of the pandemic and resume a more normal lifestyle. Speakers will be discussing this topic as well as what the future holds in light of mRNA technology and other extraordinary advancements. Questions from the audience will be welcome and encouraged.

The pandemic has shown the importance of the science of public health in fighting infectious disease spread and ensuring that there is rapid deployment of clinical trials for new therapies as well as distribution mechanisms to quickly implement vaccines and effective treatments. The current pandemic demonstrated the successful international collaboration between the public and private sectors, resulting in extraordinary innovations and the unprecedented pace of the scientific response.

Speakers will address ways in which research and development, new technologies, clinical trials, and service providers joined forces to expedite COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, and how certain processes can be improved to enhance future responsiveness. The conversation will include how today’s groundbreaking science has opened new advances and possibilities for improved patient treatments and outcomes now and in the future.

A networking reception with food and beverage will take place alfresco immediately after the fireside chat. Ticket purchase includes access to the Museum galleries.
