Friday, September 25, 2020
8:00 – 8:45 pm EST
The Brexit transition period will end at 11pm on the 31st December 2020. The UK Government have set out ambitious aims for securing new free trade agreements, not just with the EU, but with markets around the world. They are also legislating to liberalise trade within the UK’s Internal Market. With three months to go before the UK embarks on its new position outside the EU, this webinar will explore:
- Why free-trade agreements matter for businesses
- The current state of play with EU-UK negotiations
- The emerging UK picture on WTO and other trade deals
- Trade within the UK’s Internal Market
- Practical advice on what this all means for businesses
This session will be led by David Thorneloe, Legal Director at Pinsent Masons. David has unparalleled experience working at senior levels in the UK Government and advising businesses on a range of issues around understanding and engaging with government and legislation. Prior to joining Pinsent Masons in 2020, David was Head of EU Law at the UK Government’s Department for Exiting the EU, having previously held senior roles in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and working before that with the European Commission as a National Expert on Equality Law. He is currently advising the UK Government on developing its new UK Internal Market legislation.
The GBCC has teamed up with the West Midlands Combined Authority, Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce and the Black Country Chamber of Commerce to scale up support for West Midlands businesses to help them prepare for the end of the Brexit transition period.
