President’s Letter: Spring 2015

Dear BABC Members and Friends,

As our fiscal year draws to a close, I am pleased to report we have had a remarkable twelve months. By the end of June, the BABC will have participated in 15 programs, including an excellent mix of value-added educational seminars about the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP), and several discussions with UK Government Officials who discussed the importance of solid economic ties, and international security issues affecting the UK and US to name just a few of the topics. We were honored to welcome Mayor Michael A. Nutter to our signature, annual holiday luncheon; Alan Greenberger, Deputy Mayor of Philadelphia; and the Right Honorable Carwyn Jones, AM, First Minister of Wales to BABC events. Our Chapter’s activities spanned three states — Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

This is an exciting period for our region. Beginning this summer, the City of Philadelphia will be in the international spotlight as host to three major, global events: Bio 2015 in June, World Meeting of Families and the visit of Pope Francis in September 2015, and the Democratic National Convention in July 2016. Our involvement in different ways in each of these significant meetings will lend credit to our mission of promoting the trade, commercial and other relationships between the Greater Philadelphia region and the United Kingdom.

Currently we are offering our “Brit Invasion 2015” series of events featuring British themed activities throughout the area. We hope you will join us for our two final programs this fiscal year: on April 30th the BABC Young Professionals Group is presenting a discussion about Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives with a High Return, and on May 20th our collaborative event with the World Trade Center and the Consular Corp Association of Greater Philadelphia when we welcome Danny Lopez, HM Consul General & Director General, Trade & Investment USA.

I would also like to draw your attention to a very important BABC initiative — the Annual Membership Directory. Please ensure your company listing is up-to-date, and consider advertising in the 2015 – 2016 Directory — the region’s premier guide for international business. We look forward to your participation, and as always, thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Howard Silverstone
President, British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia
