UK Trade Mission Recap

The Philadelphia delegation to the UK was a great success and we already have a number of British companies visiting Philadelphia considering a US presence,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter. “I want to thank the British American Business Council for both your work on this trip and your work year-round to support and grow the British business community in Philadelphia.

The BABC was honored to join Mayor Michael A. Nutter on his first official trade mission to the United Kingdom from November 4-6, 2013 along with 13 delegate companies from Philadelphia. UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) collaborated with The City of Philadelphia to build the mission and select the companies who accompanied the Mayor to explore business opportunities, and enhance current and establish new valuable contacts. The mission promoted Philadelphia as a hub for global growth, and served to generate new FDI projects from the region for the UK.

The Mayor and Trade Mission delegates participated in a full program that included: economic briefings; industry roundtables focused on the built environment and energy efficiency; tech city and entrepreneurs; infrastructure development and financing; Olympics legacy best practice exchange; along with bilaterals with key political, economic figures. Meetings and visits included a half-day session at the American Embassy to learn about the economic and political climate of the UK and how the current situation lends itself to promoting the commercial relationship between the UK and the US. There was a well-attended welcome reception for the Trade Delegation at the Museum of London, hosted by UK Minister for Trade & Investment, Lord Green, who recognized the significance of Mayoral led delegations and the emphasis the UK places on international business opportunities.
